Image Connector User Documentation

Overviewโ€‹

The Image Connector is an advanced tool designed to analyze and describe images using a multimodal model. By simply uploading images from your local storage, this connector processes each image and generates detailed descriptions, capturing key elements and context. Ideal for users who need automated image analysis and descriptive data, the Image Connector streamlines the process of understanding and categorizing visual content.

Table of Contentsโ€‹

How It Worksโ€‹

The Image Connector uses advanced AI models to:

  • Process uploaded images
  • Analyze the visual content
  • Generate detailed text descriptions
  • Store these descriptions as searchable knowledge

These descriptions can then be accessed through ACE Search and Chat, allowing you to query information about your images using natural language.

Configurationโ€‹

Before using the Image Connector, you need to configure the multimodal model that will be used for image analysis:

  1. Go to Configuration -> Application settings -> Model selection
  2. Choose a multimodal model to use with the Image Connector

The selected model will determine the quality and style of image descriptions generated.

Using the Image Connectorโ€‹

Uploading Imagesโ€‹

  1. Navigate to the Knowledge Management section
  2. Select "Add Knowledge"
  3. Choose "Image Connector" from the list of connectors
  4. Upload your images using the file selector
  5. Provide a descriptive name for this knowledge source
  6. Set appropriate permissions for user access
  7. Click "Save" to begin processing

Processing Timeโ€‹

Processing time depends on:

  • Number of images uploaded
  • Size and complexity of the images
  • Selected multimodal model
  • Current system load

For large batches of images, processing may take several minutes.

Viewing Resultsโ€‹

After processing is complete:

  1. Navigate to "Manage Knowledge"
  2. Find your image knowledge entry
  3. Click "Review" to see the processing status
  4. Access "Knowledge Objects" to view individual image descriptions

Supported Image File Typesโ€‹

The Image Connector currently supports the following image formats:

  • JPG
  • JPEG
  • PNG

Best Practicesโ€‹

For optimal results with the Image Connector:

  • Image Quality: Use clear, well-lit images for more accurate descriptions
  • File Size: Keep individual image files under 10MB for faster processing
  • Batch Size: Upload manageable batches (10-20 images) rather than very large collections
  • Descriptive Naming: Use clear knowledge names to identify image collections
  • Appropriate Grouping: Group related images in the same knowledge source

Use Casesโ€‹

The Image Connector is particularly valuable for:

  • Content Management: Automatically generating descriptions for image libraries
  • Accessibility: Creating text alternatives for visual content
  • Digital Asset Management: Making image collections searchable by content
  • Research: Analyzing visual data and extracting insights
  • Documentation: Enhancing technical documentation with image content analysis

Limitationsโ€‹

Please be aware of the following limitations:

The connector currently does not support:

  • GIF, BMP, TIFF, or other less common image formats
  • Video files
  • Images larger than 20MB
  • Images with dimensions exceeding 4096 ร— 4096 pixels

While the multimodal model is advanced, it may not:

  • Accurately identify specialized technical content
  • Read very small text within images
  • Understand culturally specific visual references

Troubleshootingโ€‹

IssueSolution
Upload failureCheck file format and size, ensure it's under 20MB
Processing stuckTry uploading fewer images in a batch
Poor description qualityUse clearer images or try a different multimodal model
Images not appearing in searchVerify processing completed successfully
Permission issuesCheck knowledge sharing settings

Frequently Asked Questionsโ€‹

Q: Can I update the model used for existing images?
A: Yes, but you'll need to recreate the knowledge source with the new model settings.

Q: How detailed are the image descriptions?
A: Descriptions typically include main subjects, activities, settings, colors, and notable features visible in the image.

Q: Can I edit the generated descriptions?
A: Currently, descriptions cannot be edited directly. You would need to add additional knowledge entries with your custom descriptions.

Q: Does the connector store the original images?
A: Yes, the original images are stored alongside their descriptions for reference.

Q: Is there a limit to how many images I can process?
A: While there's no strict limit, we recommend processing batches of 100 images or fewer for optimal performance.
